    Questions fréquemment posées

Where does my food scraps go?

In the Future, Esperance Group would love to have it's own composting facility. In the meantime, your compost goes to GFL's Moose Creek Compost Facility.

How often will my bucket get picked up?

Pick ups are done on a weekly basis. Your bucket also get's sanitized every week. This process keeps the community clean and makes your bucket free from contamination.

What get's done with the organic fertilizer afterwards?

Once the Compost Facility turns your food scraps into organic fertilizer, Esperance Compost Purchases it to give it back to local farmers, community gardens, and to the monthly subscribers.

    What's the point of composting?

When your food scraps go to the landfill, it produces a greenhouse gas that is 20 - 30x stronger than CO2. This greenhouse gas is called methane. By correctly composting, methane get's reduced in the landfill and the food scraps do not go to waste. After the composting process, the organic fertilizer goes to local farmers who use it to crop the same fruits and vegetables we purchase from the grocery stores. Local community gardens can use it to produce fresh food while promoting environmental sustainability and the residents can use it during gardening season. None of these great things can be possible if your food scraps go to the landfill. This is why composting is so important.

    How big is the bucket?

The size of the bucket that Esperance Compost provides is 5 Gallon's.

How do I know what to

    put into the bucket?

Esperance Compost provides a list of acceptable items and what is not accepted. This gives you peace of mind to not worry about composting incorrectly.
